FAQ's

Get Free and Stay Free publishes stories of hope and transformation focusing on one niche audience at a time.  Our first series of publications concentrates on criminal justice reform. More specifically, those who are currently and formerly in prison.

Get Free and Stay Free partners with organizations who help returning citizens succeed after prison.  The purpose of this partnership is to help our partners publish their client’s success stories.  It is also an opportunity for our partners to showcase their work.

There is no cost to our partners at this time to publish their book and in fact our partners receive money when their books are sold making the project a fundraising event as well.

Get Free and Stay Free provides its partners with the guidance it needs throughout the entire process and pays for all expenses including the costs of a professional book cover designer, formatting, copyright, publishing and consultation fees! Our partners role is to provide a small team dedicated to the project for content creation of their book.

Once a game plan is spelled out it should take your team about three months working part-time on the project.  It depends on how many members are working and how committed they are but otherwise, three to six months at the most should do it, from pre-planning to publishing.

It is suggested that your team have at least 5 members and no more than 10.  However, it is totally up to your organization and depends on how much commitment each team member brings to the table.

To publish a book of success stories from your clients, to share the good work of your organization and to make it a fun and memorable experience!

Your team creates and maintains 100% content and editorial control for your book as outlined in the Get Free and Stay Free Partnership Publishing Program Agreement guidelines. In a nutshell, the content of your book should be at least 80% about your client’s success stories and the remainder of your content can be about your organization.  This is your team's opportunity to shine the light on the good work you do.

However, you like.  The most convenient method is to conduct about a one hour interview over the telephone with your client which is audio-recorded.

Content could include anything about your organization’s history, mission, purpose, a message from your leadership, testimonies from your volunteers on why they commit their time to your organization, a call for new volunteers, a call for funders, stories from various stakeholders and supporters, etc.

A rule of thumb is that 60,000 words are needed to publish a reputable-sized paperback and digital book. If you have ten clients who are willing to share their story during a one-hour recorded interview, you will be well on your way to having enough awesome content for your book!

There should be a team coordinator, client scheduler, client interviewer, partner content curator and transcribers with a flair for proper grammar.  If anyone has marketing skills, that would be a big plus when it comes to the fundraising part of the program.

The Team Coordinator communicates closely with your organization's leaders to understand their vision for the book.  The Team Coordinator also works closely with your team and your Get Free and Stay Free representative to make sure everyone is on the same page.

The Client Scheduler contacts current or former clients who are willing to share their story of hope and transformation for your book.  Once a client is willing to share their story, the Client Scheduler will coordinate the scheduling of the interview with the interviewer and obtain a signed media liability release form.

This team member conducts an interview with one of your current or former clients who has a story of hope and transformation to share for your book.  This process is done most conveniently by a remote telephone conversation which is recorded and is typically about one hour in length.  It is recommended that the same person conduct all of your client interviews to ensure a more consistent delivery of content style.

The Transcriber takes the audio from the recorded client interview and puts the spoken words into print.  A baseline transcription is provided by an artificial intelligence service and the transcriber takes if from there.  The Transcriber should have a flair for grammar to arrange the words in a way that makes more sense to the reader vs the listener.

Your book is published through Get Free and Stay Free and Absolute Author Publishing House.  Your book will be available for readers to purchase in paperback and digital formats through   Amazon.com.

There is no cost to your organization to publish your book.  Get Free and Stay Free pays all costs including your professionally designed book cover.

When people buy your book, your organization makes money.  When people buy your books through your dedicated Amazon Affiliate link, your organization receives 90% of the proceeds!  When people buy your books through Get Free and Stay Free’s platforms, your organization receives up to 50% of the proceeds for the pro-rated period of time outlined in your GFSF Partner Publishing Partner agreement.

There are several items we look at but the most important thing is your organizations ability to assemble a strong team.  A strong team is enthusiastic about the project and has enough members dedicated to the amount of time needed to produce the content and have fun doing it!
